PNET - Printmakers Network

PNET is a networking group serving printmakers across the Inland Empire. It works to promote and educate people about printmaking, give support to printmakers, increase educational and exhibition opportunities for printmakers, and to provide a venue to share art work, techniques, and upcoming show information. Monthly meetings feature demonstrations, printing challenges, sharing and discussion of participants’ artwork and even a chance to get your hands dirty while printing. Demonstrations have been given by Denise Kramer, Chick Curtis, Michael Bernbaum, and Mary Grinyer. Look for more demonstrations and workshops in the future. Beginners, professional printmakers, and printing enthusiasts are welcome.

PNET members often print during Artwalk on the first Thursday of the month from 6 to 8 PM in cooperation with the Riverside Art Museum. The public can gain a new appreciation of the medium and printers gain a chance to explain techniques, answer questions and show the work produced.

PNET monthly meetings are held at the Riverside Art Museum in the Printmaking studio. Membership in the group is open to all members of the Riverside Art Museum who pay to become a PNET member. Current fee is $20 per year. Dues are paid through the Riverside Art Museum.

March 13, 2010 - Introductory Monotype Workshop

Instructor: Chick Curtis
Location: RAM
Time: 10AM - 4PM (with participant cleanup at 3 PM.) Lunch is 30 minutes so bring a sack lunch.
Price: Printmakers Network @ RAM: Members: $65 Non-members: $75

Please join me for a day of making art using the monotype process in printmaking. Sometimes referred to as a painting transfer method, monotype is a fun way to create interesting imagery by applying various inks and materials to a Plexiglas surface and then printing the results onto paper on a printing press. What makes this process so intriguing are the "gifts" that often occur during the transfer, such as the lush and subtle textures that are unique to monotype method. Artists will learn several ways to apply inks to the Plexiglas using a brayer (roller), stencil, template, and a variety of mark-making implements, such as brushes, crayons, and scrapers.

Included in the workshop will is a brief demo followed by instruction on the use of chine colle and multiple printings on the same piece of art (multiple drops). Artists are free to follow whatever creative path that inspires them. I will be a facilitator in that effort.

Inks, plates, palettes, and work areas will be provided by the museum or PNET. A list will be sent out to the participants with the required and recommended items to bring to the workshop. One sheet of printing paper is included (4 quarter sheets at 11" x 15".) Extra sheets are $4 each.

Contact the Riverside Art Museum to sign up. The phone number is 951-684-7111. Payment is due at sign up. The last day to sign up is Wednesday, March 10, 2010. The workshop is non refundable. For more information on the workshop or PNET contact Mary Grinyer at 951-689-0915.
