As is the case with many art museums, RAM’s permanent collection has grown over our 50-year history, often by the grace of artists and collectors from the Southern California region. One of the only survey-collection museums in the region, ours spans multiple moments of time and place, artistic movements, and differing points of view. Today, RAM continues to build upon the collection’s foundation, deepening holdings in areas of strength while heading in exciting new directions, most notably, with the addition of the Cheech Marin Collection of Chicano Art.
Building Character includes 15 works acquired in the last year, including nine new works that are part of a larger gift made by Sharon and Terry Bridges in late 2020. This gift is an important addition to the museum’s collection, helping to ensure that art that has been collected in the region will remain accessible to Inland Southern California audiences for years to come.
Building Character includes works by Alison Saar, Frank Romero, Cynda Valle, Pedro Friedeberg, Teodor Dumitrescu, Jeff Soto, and Raymond Pettibon, and runs through September 5, 2021.
