Summer 2008 Class Schedule
Through the Museum Art School, the Riverside Art Museum offers diversified studio art classes and workshop selections for both children and adults. Presented on a quarterly basis, the Museum maintains a balance of traditional and innovative instruction within a small class setting, encouraging comprehensive guidance and maximum attention to student's individual interests and needs. The Museum's frequently changing exhibits and fine art atmosphere add an inspirational quality to each student's learning experience. Join us this Winter/ Spring. Please register in advance. Use your Visa, MasterCard, or write a personal check payable to the Riverside Art Museum.

C1 Drawing and Painting

8 Classes, June 16 to August 4, 2008 from 4:00 to 5:30 P.M.
Ages 6 and up
If you want to learn to draw and paint, this is the class for you! Explore various techniques and mediums, including paint, charcoal, ink and mixed media. Students will be exposed to art history as well as contemporary art work. Exploration and creativity will be stressed. This class may be joined at any time.

C2 Mommy & Me and Daddy Too!

Ages 3 to 10
6 classes: $87 (Museum Members $78.30) for one child and accompanying adult participant + $15 for each additional participant
Parents, remember how much fun you had painting and drawing when you were a kid? Even if you think you can't draw a straight line, come share this unique and artistic experience with your child! The class allows both children and accompanying adults a chance to create fabulous works of art, including drawings, paintings, and paper sculpture in a fun, creative, stress-free atmosphere.
C3 Artistic Anime

5 Classes, June 17-July 15, 2008 from 4:00-5:30 P.M.
Ages 7 and Up
Anime is the Japanese style of cartoon art used to design characters for film. Learn how to create your own characters. Draw from reference material and models with step- by-step instructions and demonstrations. Create both real and fantasy characters and creatures! Illustrate using watercolor pencils, markers and ink.
C4 Manga, The Art of the Japanese Comic Book

5 Classes, July 22-Aug 19, 2008 from 4:00-5:30 P.M.
Ages 7 and Up
Join us and learn to draw in the Manga style. Create exciting characters and backgrounds using dramatic shading and lighting techniques. Learn from models and reference materials with step- by-step instructions and demonstrations. We will draw comic splash pages and panels with human and fantasy creatures.

C5 Experiments in Art

Ages 10 and up
This class is designed to give students a wide variety of art making possibilities. We may create mixed media paintings one week and sculptures the next. The key to this class is experimentation and acquiring new skills and techniques while stretching your artistic wings. Come and learn to create art work that is interesting and unusual. This class may be joined at any time.
C7 Drawing

Ages 10 years and older, and adults
This class is for beginning artists and for people who want to add to their skills and sharpen their craft. Drawing well can be learned, and it can be improved in many ways. We will work on our ability to observe, and we will learn to recognize important, visual elements. Further, we'll discover how good composition improves your drawings. We'll also find ways to make your drawings more realistic, if you choose. You'll be surprised at what you can draw on paper. This class is ongoing and may be joined at anytime.
C8 Open Studio for Kids

June 19-August 21, 2008
Ages 6 to 12
Each class begins with a lesson based on art principles and techniques, using examples by famous artists. Students then decide how they want to interpret the lesson using the given instruction and materials. When the students are finished with the assignment, they may use any of the materials provided to create their next work of are. Materials include watercolor, oil pastels, drawing pencils, tempera paint, or clay. Each child will receive individual guidance and instruction. This class is ongoing and may be joined at anytime.
