Fall 2008 Class Schedule

Through the Museum Art School, the Riverside Art Museum offers diversified studio art classes and workshop selections for both children and adults. Presented on a quarterly basis, the Museum maintains a balance of traditional and innovative instruction within a small class setting, encouraging comprehensive guidance and maximum attention to student's individual interests and needs. The Museum's frequently changing exhibits and fine art atmosphere add an inspirational quality to each student's learning experience. Please register in advance. Use your Visa, MasterCard, or write a personal check payable to the Riverside Art Museum.

Ages 6 to 10

If you want to learn to draw and paint, this is the class for you! Explore various techniques and mediums, including paint, charcoal, ink and mixed media. Students will be exposed to art history as well as contemporary art work. Exploration and creativity will be stressed. This class may be joined at any time. All supplies will be provided.

C2 Drawing and Color Fantasy

Ages 7 and up

Create and draw a magical world filled with knights in armor, princesses, dragons, fairies and unicorns! We will use ink, markers, and watercolor pencils. There will be step by step instructions and demonstrations. All supplies will be provided.

Age’s 7-up

Creatures are exciting to draw! Join us and learn to draw with easy instructions and demonstrations. Learn to draw fur, feathers and fangs! We will be drawing wolves, eagles, raccoons, birds and more! With easy instructions and demonstrations. All supplies will be provided.

C4 Drawing for the Homeschooled Student

Ages 6 to 10

Learn basic techniques and use line, shape, and value to create realistic drawings. We’ll use the same principles to experiment with an assortment of drawing media, such as water soluble pencils and crayons, charcoal and ink. Take your drawings from good to terrific. All supplies will be provided.

C5 Experiments in Art

This class is designed to give students a wide variety of art making possibilities. We may create mixed media paintings one week and sculptures the next. The key to this class is experimentation and acquiring new skills and techniques while stretching your artistic wings. Come and learn to create art work that is interesting and unusual. This class may be joined at any time. All supplies will be provided.

Ages 14 years and older, and adults

This class is for beginning artists and for people who want to add to their skills and sharpen their craft. Painting well can be learned, and it can be improved in many ways. We will work on our ability to observe, and we will learn to recognize important, visual elements. Further, we’ll discover how good composition improves your paintings. This class is ongoing and may be joined at anytime.

C7 Open Studio for Kids

Ages 5 to 10

Each class begins with a lesson based on art principles and techniques, using examples by famous artists. Students then decide how they want to interpret the lesson using the given instruction and materials. When the students are finished with the assignment, they may use any of the materials provided to create their next work of art. Materials include watercolor, oil pastels, drawing pencils, tempera paint, or clay. Each child will receive individual guidance and instruction. This class may be joined at anytime. All supplies will be provided.

This class is designed for students who are interested in increasing their skills in drawing, mixed media, and painting with the idea of developing their artistic style. Students will be exposed to art history and contemporary art so they will feel comfortable discussing art-related subjects and their own artwork. C9 Mommy & Me and Daddy Too!

Ages 3 to 10

Parents, remember how much fun you had painting and drawing when you were a kid? Even if you think you can’t draw a straight line, come share this unique and artistic experience with your child! The class allows both children and accompanying adults a chance to create fabulous works of art, including drawings, paintings, and paper sculpture in a fun, creative, stress-free atmosphere. All supplies will be provided.

C10 Drawing Animals Made Easy!
