Art and Science Connection
You can choose to provide enrichment in both art and science with our new Art and Science Connection programs designed and taught by a scientist and by an artist. This is a curriculum, grade-specific, standards-based program for grades 4th, 5th and 6th.
The cost for each curriculum to be taught in your classroom is $150.00 for the two lessons, all supplies included. Each curriculum includes 1 art lesson and 1 science lesson. The number of students is limited to 34. This program is available to the Greater Riverside area.
Grade 4: Food for Thought
Science: Students will learn the structure and function of their teeth, and how teeth vary in mammals that are herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores.
Art: Create drawings of a mammal's skull. We will focus on defining the skull's form using light and shadow.
Grade 5: Seeing is Believing
Science: Students will learn how their eyes see light and color, and how their brains use the information about the world that this sensory system collects.
Art: Color Theory is key to painting. Discover how artists use color to create artwork that fools the eye.
Grade 5: The Sound and Sight of Music
Science: Students will learn how the human ear turns vibrations from sounds into messages the brain interprets as music.
Art: We'll look at the influence sound has had on artists and create a painting based on music and sound.
Grade 6: Wet and Dry
Science: Each biome has an assortment of specially adapted plants and animals that live there. Students will learn about food webs and animal adaptations in two very different biomes. You may choose to compare Rainforests versus Deserts OR Tropical Coral Reef versus California Coastal biomes.
Art: Historically Landscape artists have shaped the way we feel about the land we inhabit. We'll look at the way various artists have interpreted the world around us and how their view affects the way we think about our place in the world.
Creating a painting of a biome that uses both artistic and scientific knowledge will challenge our imaginations.
Art Partners School Tour
Broaden your student's horizons; visit the Riverside Art Museum for an Art Partners School Tour.
The museum is housed in a 1929 Julia Morgan designed building and is a work of art in itself. Rich with history the building and its architect helped to shape the look and culture of downtown Riverside.
Our two-hour, guided program allows your students to visit our galleries accompanied by one of our museum educators. We will make the artwork come alive with gallery games and art activities introducing your students to the visual arts, architecture, and hands-on art making. Your tour will be adapted to specific grade levels and meet the California State Curriculum Standards for the Visual Arts.
The fee for the two-hour tour is $60 per classroom with a maximum of 32 students per group. We can accommodate 2 classrooms at a time for a maximum of 64 students during a two-hour session.
Please fill out the Form and mail or fax it to the museum. If you have any questions, please contact Pamela Atkinson at (951) 684-7111 ext. 313, or email: patkinson@riversideartmuseum.org
