Art Camp 2008

The Riverside Art Museum's Youth Education Department offers quality programs for children and teens throughout the year. Our Art Partners Field Trip Program and Art-to-Go Classroom Experience are designed to bring quality art education to schools and children's groups throughout the Inland Empire.

Week-long camps, $135 (Museum Members $121.50)
All supplies will be provided.
Class sizes will be limited, so please enroll early.

Week of June 16 to June 20

CA Beginning Drawing Camp
Pamela Atkinson, Instructor
9:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. There will be a break, so bring a snack.
Ages 6 to 9

It's great to be able to amaze your friends and family with your drawings. Learn basic techniques and use line, shape, and value to create realistic drawings. We'll use the same principles to experiment with an assortment of drawing media, such as water soluble pencils, oil pastels, charcoal, and ink. Spend the week learning to create wonderful drawings.

Week of June 23 to June 27

CB Introduction to Manga and Anime Style Drawing

9:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. There will be a break, so bring a snack.
Ages 7 and Up

This camp will introduce beginners to the art of the Japanese drawing styles of Manga and Anime. Learn basic design principles and how to use them to draw various characters. Discover how to draw eyes, hair styles, clothes, expressions, poses, and the differences between the shoujo and shounen style.

Week of July 7 to July 11

CC Journey through Art

9:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. There will be a break, so bring a snack.
Ages 6 to 12

Come and explore art from around the world using a variety of media, such as drawing, painting, collage and clay modeling. We will create two artworks everyday, each from a different culture. We will investigate the art of old Mesopotamia, Egypt, Japan, China, Ancient Greece and Rome, the Native Americas and much more. Join us and broaden your horizons.

Week of July 14 to 18

CD Color, Color, Color

9:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. There will be a break, so bring a snack.
Ages 6 to 10

Watercolor, tempera paint, glitter and gloss, this class will explore the joys of paint, paper and color. Color mixing and brushstrokes will be taught, as well as composition and design. Exploration and experimentation will be stressed. Make your world a more colorful place.

Week of July 14 to 18

CE Jewelry
Deborah Waltzer, Instructor
9:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. There will be a break, so bring a snack.
Ages 10 years and older, and adults

Make gifts for friends and family; learn how to create beautiful pieces of jewelry everyone will admire: bracelets, earrings, and necklaces galore!

Week of July 21 to 25

CE Fabric Arts Camp
Lori Beilby, Instructor
9:30A.M.-12:30 P.M.
Ages 12 years and older, and adults

Explore some traditional methods of fabric manipulation and embellishment such as dyeing, printing, appliquŽ and stitching. With these techniques, create a wearable piece of art using recycled materials.

Week of July 28 to August 1

CF Science with a Twist and Art Too!

9:30A.M.-12:30 P.M. There will be a break, so bring a snack.
Ages 7 to 12

Have you ever wondered what's under your feet? Do you think plants can sweat? Does anything live in the hot water of a geyser, in the deepest ocean, or on the top of a mountain? Do plants move on their own? Why do leaves turn red and yellow in the fall? Where do plants in the desert get water? These are some of the questions we will try to answer. Each lesson will be followed by an art project tied to the lesson.

Week of August 4 to 8

CG Fun with Clay
Melissa Culley, Instructor
9:30 to 12:30 P.M. There will be a break, so bring a snack.
Ages 6 to 12

Learn to make a variety of objects, toys, and pots. Learn coil and slab techniques using air dry clay. Work with a ceramic artist and learn the ins and outs of creating hand built objects. Let your imagination go wild.
