Community Chicano Studies

In preparation for the opening of The Cheech, RAM has partnered with Dr. Irene Sanchez to offer Community Chicano Studies (CCS). CCS is a community-based learning experience that combines a brief history lesson from Chicano Studies and a corresponding creative activity. In this series, participants can choose to attend one, two, or all three of the following workshops:

  • Understanding the Ancestors, Thursday, March 14: Learn about the impact of the indigenous past/present on Chicano art and culture
  • Uncovering the Myths, Thursday, March 21: Study the influence of "fantasy heritage" on Southwest history
  • Becoming Chicano, Thursday, March 28: Find out about the impact of the 1960s fight for civil rights on Chicano identity formation

This educational series will be facilitated by Dr. Irene Sanchez, a Chicana educator, poet, and writer. She is a Latino Studies teacher in the Azusa Unified School District and Humanities faculty at Bard College–Los Angeles. She is also proud to have been raised in the Inland Empire.

5:30 p.m.–7 p.m.

1-day workshop: $20; All three workshops: $50
