Riverside’s Eastside community has a rich history of diverse residents coming together to make their neighborhoods spaces where families can gather, connect, and feel safe. Here at the Riverside Art Museum, we are proud to support an artist-in-residence program with Juan Navarro who works with residents and non-profit organizations to beautify and transform spaces throughout the Eastside, including three murals which have already been completed.
The University and Park Avenue Mural Project brought together six artists to engage with the community to design and create a mural reflective of the aspirations of local residents. The community chose the following themes: unity, peace, harmony, multicultural appreciation, and family celebration across cultures. Artists worked from September 8–September 22 to complete this community mural.
Join us virtually during October's Artswalk as Juan Navarro, the lead artist on our University and Park Avenue Mural Project, takes over RAM’s Instagram, live, with all the participating artists: Adrian Boyer, John Cuevas, C. Matthew Luther, Robin Luther, and Daniel Toledo.
This is a family-friendly COVID-19 event to celebrate this new community mural project located at the gateway to the Eastside, at Arci's Candy at 2870 University Avenue. If you're up for it, stop by for a celebratory car parade by honking your horn and grabbing a fun goodie bag filled with fun surprises by Arci’s, RAM, and the artists.
