Ginger Pena's watercolor paintings of orange groves, wildflowers, gardens and historic buildings emphasize atmospheric quality and mood. Often completed outdoors, these luminous paintings express the artist's love for nature in a style best described as "Painterly Realism". Pena paints on watercolor canvas, which she appreciates for the variety of techniques it accepts and for its ability to be varnished and framed without mats and glass. In addition to Pena's love for color, she also regards herself as a storyteller...sort of. She likes to suggest parts of stories by blurring colors and softening edges and cropping compositions so that viewers have to guess at the stories, or make up their own. "I’ve been painting for many years, and have only recently realized that my job as an artist is to let the viewer finish my paintings", Pena says. "I would rather have you guess at what kind of flower I've painted...
