About

Director's Message

Exactly four years ago, I arrived at the Riverside Art Museum to begin a new and exciting chapter of my life. Before my arrival, I believed in the "natural" cycles (or chapters) of life typically lasting seven years on average. I have now learned an important exception to the rule... whenever tremendous energy, resources, and vision are combined together to constantly "push the envelope", then a growth stage can be realized in half the time!

Clearly, RAM started a new chapter earlier this year, and we are charging forward in many new directions (i.e., new strategic plan, long-range vision, staff members, regional initiatives, partnerships, logo, website, Board leaders, operating procedures/systems, etc.).

This issue of Artifacts is just one indication that RAM is evolving into a more sophisticated Museum. Before this year, Artifacts was published infrequently and in limited colors. Starting this year, we are now publishing three times per year in a much more appealing magazine-style of publication. Additionally, most of our publications are now full-color and professionally designed in-house (thanks to our new Marketing Coordinator, Micah Carlson).

Finally, all of this exponential growth for the Museum is a credit to the many great people that devoted themselves to the Museum over the past fifty years to create our current opportunities and potential.

One of those important individuals that I can't credit enough is Kathy Smith, who retired in July as Administrative Director. She brought a monumental amount of "class" to the Museum staff over the past 18 years! She was always loyal to the best interests of the Museum, and stood by me (and previous RAM Directors) during the organization's most challenging moments. Kathy had many of the critical attributes that you'd want to have on your team loyal, hard-working, reliable, and friendly. We'll miss seeing her daily on staff; yet know that she will always be a significant part of our future and growing family at RAM.

Most Respectfully,

Daniel Foster
Executive Director
